DON'T Turn Your Clock Back

Every year when Daylight Saving Time ends, I do something a little unusual. I don’t turn my clock back right away.It started as a little experiment a few years ago. I figured, why not trick myself into waking up an hour earlier? Instead of using that extra hour to sleep, I decided to get to shul earlier and spend that time learning Torah. No distractions, no rushing, just quiet time to learn before the day really gets started. And you know what? It worked! That extra hour became one of the most productive and enjoyable parts of my day. Now, some of you might be thinking, “But I’ll be tired!” Maybe for the first day or two. But I’ve found that when you have a good reason to get up, your body and mind adjust pretty quickly.

And it doesn’t have to be learning Torah. Maybe it’s getting in an early Jump Into Shape class, spending more time davening with kavana, or simply starting your day without rushing around.

There’s something special about the early morning hours. The phone isn’t ringing, the emails aren’t coming in, and the world is still relatively quiet. It’s an opportunity to invest in your guf, your neshama, or hopefully both!So here’s my suggestion. This Motzei Shabbos, when everyone else turns their clocks back an hour, why not try keeping yours where it is? At least give it a try for a few days. You might be surprised at what you can accomplish with an extra hour in the morning.Sometimes a small change in our routine can make a tremendous difference in our lives.
