I just made up this term so I doubt you have any idea what it is... it's related to pushing ourselves to achieve and accomplish more to reach our goals...
For years I have been praying at the vasikin minyan - Jewish prayer service in the morning that is timed to get to the most important prayer as the sun is rising... The starting time of the service changes from about 7am in the winter to about 5am in the summer... There is a period of time in the winter and the summer that the time is pretty much the same for a month or so... However, for the rest of the year, it can change from a few seconds to 1 minute from day to day...
With that background, the other day after the service concluded I heard some people talking that they have officially started to set their alarm clock about 30 minutes later... We have left the earliest time at the beginning of the summer behind and now we are starting late enough that people could sleep more... What is wrong with this? Maybe nothing, but maybe we can take a different attitude... If a person was able to wake up at 4:30am when vasikin was at its earliest, why sleep longer now? They can still get up at 4:30am, but use the extra 30 minutes before prayer to learn Torah or accomplish other things... This is the route I have taken for the last decade as my alarm goes off at the same time 365 days of the year... When vasikin is early I have a little time to learn before prayer... when it gets later, I learn before and after... and when it's at its latest I can learn for a while before prayer and have to run home right afterward for carpool...
I saw this same exact idea in the 15th chapter of Tanya this morning... There the Tanya discusses the difference between learning something 100 times versus 101... at those times it was normal to review something 100 times, so the person that does it 1 more time is EXTENDING THEMSELVES to reach a higher level...
Back to the Vasikin Syndrome - a person can move their clock all year round forward and back and do what is normal... or they can set their clock at the earliest, push themselves and achieve heights beyond their wildest dreams...
I give everyone a blessing that you extend yourself outside of your comfort zone and reach every one of your goals in record times... and then set higher goals... Thank you and many blessings, Moshe
